SUSTAINABILITY

ETHICAL PRODUCTION - SLOW FASHION - CARBON CONSCIOUS

“There is no beauty in the finest cloth if it makes hunger and unhappiness” - Mahatma Gandhi

We believe in the ethos: BUY LESS, BUY BETTER.

We believe that there is no such thing as a "green" product but we can do our part to be as sustainable, transparent and conscious as possible. Our designs are striking, investment pieces created with longevity in mind because we encourage you to curate a wardrobe of select, well made pieces you love instead of piles of clothing you will only wear once.

Ethical production

Take solace in knowing that every single human hand that has created our garments has received adequate healthcare, above living wage and comfortable and safe working conditions. There is no discrimination in our workplace. Our staff is comprised of adults who work reasonable (9-5) hours and enjoy what they do.

SMALL BATCH PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
SLOW FASHION

Our garments are designed, cut, sewn and finished in our own in-house atelier in Bali. We release timeless, trans-seasonal collections on our own schedule, producing limited runs of each item, along with our permanent collection of which many pieces are made to order. All of our clothing is sustainably made in small batches to ensure no excess stock ever goes to landfill & we can be conscious with precious resources.

USING BUSINESS AS A FORCE FOR GOOD

We are honored and incredibly exicted to announce that both Love Khaos, and our sister brand Ekoluxe have earned B Corporation certification from B LAB®, a non-profit organization that verifies and serves a global movement of people using business as a force for good.

You may be asking: What is the meaning of B Corp certification or what is a B Corp?

Individually, B Corps meet the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability, and aspire to use the power of markets to solve social and environmental problems.

Collectively, B Corps share a vision of an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy that balances profit and purpose. Through the power of their voices and practices they reshape their local economies to prioritize people and the planet.

For us, becoming a certified B Corporation means joining a growing community of companies committed to accelerating a global culture shift that redefines success in business and builds a more inclusive and sustainable economy. While this certification is a recognition of our sustainable and ethical business practices, being a B Corp has never been our end goal. Rather, it serves as a guide to help us continue to challenge the antiquated norms of the fashion industry and have an even greater positive impact on people and the planet.

Quality

Quality to us means that a garment is made with precision, integrity and thoughtfulness. In order to create perfect, long-lasting clothing we put a considerable amount of time and research into analyzing both the fabric and the construction for every piece we make. For materials this process includes evaluating the weight of each fabric and choosing the highest quality and most durable materials. For construction our philosophy is to make the best you must be the best. Our small, expert staff of tailors are true masters of their craft; Some of them with more than 25 years of experience in luxury garment manufacturing. From design → sampling → fitting → product testing and quality control, no aspect is overlooked. We take fabrication very seriously so we can offer quality clothing that can accompany you on all of your adventures for years to come.

Giving Back

We firmly believe that a social mission should hold equal importance alongside our product and economic objectives. Businesses possess a profound responsibility and unique opportunity to be catalysts for positive change worldwide. We bring this vision to life by channeling our profits into causes that ignite our passion. Each year, we dedicate a minimum of 1% of profits to environmental initiatives and at least another 1% towards uplifting communities and supporting humanitarian efforts. This commitment allows us to harness our success as a driving force for creating lasting impacts on both the planet and its people.

FULL TRANSPARENCY
OUR FABRICS

As a festival brand we design clothing in hopes of bringing your wildest fashion fantasies to life. To achieve this we use the newest, flashiest fabrics we can find (think holographic sequins, reflective materials, etc). Whenever possible we use recycled or certified sustainable materials, but its not always possible. Often these amazing textiles aren't the most environmentally sustainable, but we hope that by making a durable, high quality item with premium fabrics you will wear these garments for years to come. This longevity makes them a more sustainable choice than their cheap, fast fashion counterparts that fall apart within a few wears. We ask that you mend, donate and recycle your pieces when it comes time. To do our part we have purchased carbon offsets to balance the negative impacts we cause by using these fabrics. This doesn't make it right, and it's by no means an excuse but it's the least we can do.

We use goat and sheep leather. Although leather can be a controversial material, we believe that as long as these animals are a staple part of the diet in Java (the neighboring island to us in Bali) and killed for food, it's better to turn the leftover skin into something beautiful than to waste it. While some might argue that leather alternatives, like pleather, may be more ecological, we feel that using petroleum-based materials should be avoided when possible. A faux leather piece will fall apart much faster than a genuine leather piece and then be discarded to live forever in a landfill.

We never have and never will use: fur, angora, down feather, shearling, karakul or exotic animal skin and hair.

Supporting small, local and ethical businesses is very important to us. We employ a Supplier Code of Conduct to hold our suppliers accountable to the highest social and environmental standards.

Love Khaos and Ekoluxe are 100% carbon neutral fashion brands.
We are officially Carbon Neutral (and potentially Carbon Negative).

We have always prided ourselves in being a sustainable brand because we pay our staff well and uphold ethical practices when it comes to labor and production. When it comes to the environment it’s a lot more challenging because the effects of our choices and actions are not always apparent.

Making a sustainable garment while still maintaining a viable business model and maintaining the highest standards of quality is nearly impossible. The basic fact of the matter is that making clothing is one tiny piece of the pie with regards to the creation of Carbon Dioxide and other greenhouse gasses that lead to climate change. The materials we use are actually just a drop in the bucket. The mining/growing of raw materials, processing, shipping, electricity, manpower, assembly, packaging, etc. is an amazingly complex process. Whether a garment is made from recycled water bottles, organic hemp, pineapple leather or whatever the latest miracle material, the amount of carbon it takes to actually make something in our global economy is bigger than that.

So rather than getting discouraged by this reality we acted. Since 2020 we have invested in VCS (Verified Carbon Standard) carbon offset projects that replace and balance the resources we use. We give back to two programs: For Peat's Sake, a carbon sequestration project in Indonesia and AgroCortex REDD+, an award winning project that prevents deforestation in the Amazon rainforest.

We calculated our carbon footprint for scope 1,2 & 3 emissions from BOTH Love Khaos and Ekoluxe to be about 92 mTCO2 and choose to offset 151 mTCO2 in a conscious effort to "round up" just to be safe. We do this because for a couple reasons. First we recognize the entire supply chain goes all the way back to the energy it takes to pull the raw materials, to make some of our fabrics, out of the ground. Second we cannot determine how many times a customer will wash and wear a garment, or what they will do with it once they are done with it. Accurately measuring some of these metrics can be very difficult and we would rather be carbon negative than the alternative.

The Fashion Industry is the 2nd most polluting industry in the world. We feel very strongly that if designers and brands own up to this reality we can make honest and legitimate moves towards fighting climate change.
